Hello and welcome to Natural Spirit!  My name is Irenenee Jenkins  and I specialise in Stress Management and Women's Health and Natural Fertility through Naturopathy, Herbal Medicine and massage. I help women balance their hormones, gain energy and manage stress. I also help couples boost theirfertility which will increase their chances to conceive. My passion is to help women gain back their health and vitality and be symptom free.   I provide clients with simple strategies to help obtain their health goals.

Sometimes the stresses of life weigh us down and we can’t see the beauty around us. I can understand this as a working mum of twins life is busy. However, it doesn’t always have to be like this. I’m lucky that as a Naturopath I have at my disposal stress management techniques and wonderful herbal medicines that calm, uplift and energise. And believe me, I use them nearly every day! </p>

This is on my mind at the moment as I have upped my exercise levels. I also have been asked regularley how do I keep so energetic in my mid 40s…I fuel myself with nutritious food, I rest, have a positive attitude and I take herbal medicines to help my body function at it’s optimum level.</p>

<p>It was an overcast and humid morning here at the Lake. I love walking the 8km lap as it is walking meditation for me. Today I didn’t need my sunglasses which was a blessing as a I got to see all the colours as they should be. What do you do to be in the here and now?</p>

<p>My 3 top tips for keeping cool - it’s going to be hot hot hot today here in Sydney!</p>

<p>1. Keep Hydrated - remember to sip lots of water throughout the day. Avoid iced water as I know it is tempting to keep you cool, however it will knock out your digestive system and in hot weather it is vitally important that your gut is healthy.</p>

<p>2. Eat foods that cool you down - In Ayurveda, sweet, bitter, astringent foods are the ones to go for to keep cool. Good examples are coconut (milk & oil), sweet ripe fruits like avocados, cherries, plums, grapes, pineapples, peaches and mangoes are perfect. Coriander and mint are excellent herbs. Asparagus, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, zucchini and green beans are all good.</p>

<p>3. The following herbs are great as teas (hot or cool) and will help to cool you down: Hibiscus, rose and fresh mint.</p>

I was thinking about this before I walked my 8km loop around Narrabeen Lake today. You see, I always go clockwise and I thought what would happen if I went anti-clockwise? It felt strange starting off walking the “wrong” way.. then I started noticing all these different things along the way. You see, I was seeing the same things but by a different perspective. Instead of going into autopilot mode I was very present in the here and now.</p>

<p>So how about next time you do something that you always do the same way each time, change it up? By doing this it makes your brain go out of autopilot and actually think. This in turn helps you to reduce stress, lift your mood and to grow as a person.</p>

<p>Are your feelings switched on or off?  People are to quick to say “just get on with it” or “suck it up”. Often this is said by people who are not aware of their emotions or have not experienced something traumatic. All our emotions are important. If we keep them in then they can materialise as a health conditions. Let them out, acknowledge them then release them so they do not take hold of you and your health. </p>

<p>We all go through something in our lives. Today I am feeling sad and that is OK. It is an appropriate response to what is happening in my life at the moment. I acknowledge it, I release it. Why am I telling you this? So you know that it is OK to feel. What is not OK is to keep it all in. To lift my sadness I went for a walk today at my favourite place at Narrabeen Lake (a short walk as I have a broken little toe) and I have my calming herbs to help lift the sadness. I also have a support network of friends and family.</p>
